There are some major signs you are a ghostwriter; if you write at night you are a ghostwriter. Why are you working in darkness if you are not a ghost? It is ghostwriters that work in the wee hours trying to finish books and articles for their clients.
If you are a good writer they will say you have a ghostwriter. People don’t believe all the words you are slaying. If you are killing with the pen, you are definitely a ghostwriter. Even famous musicians are said to have ghostwriters. Some of them do, but others are just good. If you are good, you are good.

I was once told by a client to write on what I would do differently if I owned the internet. Guess what I said I would do? I said I will make it free. Damn, it is almost free nowadays, there is free Wi-Fi all over. I guess my prophecy came true considering that I wrote that piece a long time ago. Internet access can be very expensive. If it is free for you to access, there is still someone paying for it at some point, it can be the mall management, it can be the company you work for and such.
Think of what else I have been asked to write? I have been told to write about a 4-minute sexual encounter with a woman. Well, first of all, I am not a four-minute guy, second, the client didn’t want to pay. And it was a woman to make the matters worse, why would I write her a lay report for nothing? Do you see how people take writers for granted? If I was new to this thing I would have written it for free but I am a master here. According to the Joker (2008), if you are good at something you don’t do it for free. You charge for it.
Ghostwriting is interesting only that you won’t receive the recognition. And that’s why I like being a ghostwriter at times, you can see the things you wrote doing rounds on the internet and you don’t give a shit, you take the money and say to hell with the fame. I would like the articles I wrote to bear my name so that I can use them for future opportunities. Sometimes they don’t bear your name and you have to rely on your past ghostwriting clients to refer you for jobs.
However, I am not complaining since I have a blog here and it has my name on it. It is good enough to speak for me.
If you are a ghostwriter you need some marketing, otherwise, how will you get some jobs. But once you write and sell something to someone, you can’t turn around and claim it was yours. When you hear a song on the radio that you wrote, you can’t say it is your song. You wrote it and sold it. You cease ownership.
Most musicians don’t own their albums. The recording labels own the masters, however, the musicians can perform their songs. You see how tricky that business looks like.
Ghostwriting is not like ghost riding. I don’t want you confusing these two forms of arts. They are both arts that I appreciate so much because they have some thrill to them. When you are ghost riding a car or bicycle, you can cause some serious damage if you are not careful. However, they are both the same because it is like something is happening but you can’t see who is doing it.
Ghostwriting doesn’t mean ghosting on clients. If you accept an order, it is just ethical to deliver it on the agreed time frame otherwise you change from a ghostwriter to a ghost worker. And what is ethics anyway, clients are always willing to give you more time if you just ask for it. Things are never that serious.
Ghostwriting is frowned upon in some instances but I have no problem with it. I won’t publish something written by another writer on my blog with my name on it. I can write so I don’t need the services. But if someone who is not a writer needs something written for them I am ready or ghostwriters are ready. It is okay to ask for a service from people who offer them. Ghostwriting is thus just a service…
